Enhance your natural lip shape with a color of your choice. Topical anesthetic makes this procedure very tolerable. Lasts 3-5 years.

• Does it hurt?

  Let me start by saying that we use topical numbing both before your appointment and during. We also place a dental guard in your mouth to absorb vibration which lessens sensitivity. However, since there are many nerve endings in the lips, we can not guarantee a pain free experience. Most of our clients find the overall pain sensation is a 3/10 and very tolerable, but this is subjective and can vary from individual to individual.

• How do you pick the color?

  We encourage you to bring in your favourite go-to lip stick or liner to give us an idea of tonality. We will then guide you on the colour choice based on your lip undertones. The colour will fade significantly during the healing process (40-60%) so it is important to pack a punch with the colour during the treatment to compensate for this.

• Can we make my lips bigger?

  Although we will be enhancing the vermillion border that naturally fades over time, we never overline the lips as this will give a very poor healed result. A renewed looking vermillion border will make the natural lip shape look enhanced and the needling action from the treatment stimulates natural collagen production which leads some to feel their lips ultimately look slightly bigger/fuller. However, keep in mind this treatment is primarily done to enhance the lip colour. We can correct minor asymmetries in the lip tissue however, if you would like your lip volume/size addressed, you would need to seek out lip filler.

• Can this be done with filler?

  Yes! These treatments go well together as one corrects volume/shape and one corrects and enhances the colour/outline. However, lip filler and lip tattoo treatments will need to be done at least 4 weeks apart from each other. Lip filler will lead to an increased risk of swelling and bruising during the treatment.

• Can I still wear lipstick?

  Yes. Lip blush is not as opaque as lipstick (therefore will not replace a lipstick look) and is often used as a base colour for a day to day “gloss and go” look. However, you can always change it up by using a different lipstick shade for a special event, night out or just to switch things up.

• What should I do leading up to my appointment?

  We encourage you to keep your lips exfoliated and hydrated the week leading up to your appointment. Avoid blood thinners such as alcohol, aspirin and ibuprofen for 24 hours prior. It is best to avoid coffee and pre-work out supplements the day of your appointment. It is best to eat something a least a couple of hours before your appointment and wear comfortable clothing. You may bring headphones to put in during the procedure.

  Please note, if you have a history of cold sores, you must talk to your doctor as a course of antiviral medication such as Valtrex or Acyclovir is recommended to help alleviate the risk of a cold sore forming post-procedure which could complicate the healing process. Even if you do not regularly get cold sores, having a history of them will increase your chance of getting one as the virus often lays dormant until activated by injury such as dental work, sunburn, lip tattoo etc.

  *There is no guarantee that you will not get a cold sore if you are prone to them, even with treatment.

  Some find it helpful to take an antihistamine prior to their appointment which may reduce swelling.

• How long is the appointment?

  We book 2 hours. This ensures adequate time to consult with you on shape and colour and to numb you.

• Do I need a touch up?

  All first time full paying clients on a new lip tattoo will receive a complimentary touch up. The touch up is done 6-8 weeks following the initial appointment. This appointment is to do small touch ups, tweak the colour if needed and increase longevity.

• What is the healing process like?

  Although most people swell minor-moderately following the treatment, some can swell quite a bit depending on their inflammatory response. Because we don’t know how you will react, we recommend not being in the public eye immediately following your appointment if swelling of the lips will make you self conscious. Swelling (if any) generally subsides in 24 hours. Most find it acceptable to return to normal daily activities the day following their treatment. The lips will be very bright in colour for the first couple of days (like a lipstick look), and you will apply a medicated ointment which will make them look glossy. The lips will start to peel around days 3-4 (DO NOT PICK OR SCRUB). Many find the peeling is done by days 5-7, again this depends on individual healing times. If you heal slowly it can take up to 10 days.

  Although there is no clinical downtime, there is about a week of social downtime depending on your comfort level being out in public with healing lips.

• How long will it last?

  Most find it lasts 2-3 years before needing a colour boost/refresh to make the colour vibrant again. If no upkeep is done, the colour will gradually fade and lighten until no colour is visible.
